WinA - Certificate IV Trade Scholarship

For women currently working in an automotive Trade role, wishing to study a higher level trade qualification.

Kangan Institute has supported women in training for many years, and with this new initiative we aim to encourage more women in to the automotive industry. Women add a unique and valuable perspective to the automotive industry and Kangan Institute’s Automotive Centre of Excellence is proud to support this scholarship.

Kangan Institute educates over 3500 students in all aspects of the automotive industry. From secondary school students getting their first taste of the industry, to apprentices learning their trade, and those who want to work in advanced technology or customer service, Kangan has a course to suit everyone’s needs.

About the Scholarship

Candidates may include, and are not limited to, Automotive Mechanics, Automotive Body Repairers and Automotive Electricians.

The successful applicant may choose to complete one (1) Certificate IV Automotive Trade qualification relevant to their trade such as:

  • AUR40212 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis
  • AUR40612 Certificate IV in Automotive Electrical Technology

Certificate IV automotive trade courses are designed for students who are in the workplace and who wish to expand their knowledge of vehicle systems. When you successfully complete a course, you will increase your skills and knowledge within the automotive industry for advanced diagnostics, OHS and servicing of modern vehicles.

Eligibility

    To be eligible to apply for this Scholarship you must first meet ALL the following requirements:

    • • Be WinA member. Membership is free. If you wish to become a member click here.
    • • Be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or New Zealand Citizen.
    • • Hold a Certificate III level automotive trade qualification
    • • Be currently working in the automotive industry and in the trade you qualified in
    • • Not currently hold an industry sponsored scholarship

Please attach two written reports from referees which address the following areas: 
  • - Commitment to the automotive industry
  • - Leadership qualities and communication skills
  • - Ability to successfully undertake a Certificate IV qualification.

Submission Requirements

  • 1. Application Form
  • 2. Answers to questions (500 words maximum each, 12pt)
  • 3. Two referee reports. If you are an employee, one of your referees must be your current automotive workplace employer
  • 4. Current resume
  • 5. Copies of any certificates held, including the units undertaken

The completed application with ALL the supporting documents must be submitted by the advertised deadline

Application Process

  • 1. A Women in Automotive Scholarship Panel consisting of industry representatives will select a short list of candidates for interviews, based on the applicant's:
    • • Responses to the application and interview questions
    • • Demonstrated commitment to the automotive industry
    • • All-round ability including communication skills, leadership qualities and practical application
    • • Ability to benefit from the scholarship and pass on those benefits to others in the industry
  • 2. Interviews of short listed applicants will be conducted at VACC House, Level 7, 464 St Kilda Road, MELBOURNE, VIC, 3004
  • 3. The panel will select a winner in each category. Scholarships will only be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit
  • 4. The winners will be announced at the Australian Motoring Festival, 26-29 March 2015 at the Melbourne Showgrounds
  • 5. To accept the scholarship, the recipient will be requested to return a signed acceptance document
  • 6. No correspondence will be entered into and the decision is final

 

To keep your scholarship

To keep your scholarship you must meet ALL of the following conditions:

  • • Remain working in the automotive industry for the duration of the scholarship
  • • Complete all assessments within the time frame required
  • • Pass all units attempted each semester or term. The continuation of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic progress
  • • Undertake activities in relation to the scholarship that are of benefit to Women in Automotive. This may include, and is not limited to, media events, photographs and public speaking
  • • Scholarships are not transferrable to another person
  • • Change of course is not permitted

A scholarship winner may apply for exemption to these conditions in the event of exceptional circumstances
